Written for the prompt "Touya/Kaho, engagement ring".

Title: Leap
Series: Cardcaptor Sakura
Length: 400 words
Genre: Introspective
Pairing: Touya/Kaho
Summary: It was a day for taking chances.

He was twenty-four years old, but it was his sixth birthday. Most people had a birthday every year, but not him. His mother once told him that his was more special because of its rareness.

She’d also told him that the day was one for taking chances, for leaping into the unknown, for refusing to be scared of anything and instead finding the one thing in the world he wanted and going after it. A day like this didn’t come along very often, so when it did, it was time to turn “what if” into “what is”.

And this year would be the biggest leap of all.

Kaho had only been back for a few months. This time, they had finally struck up the friendship she’d promised. He’d begun to wonder if it would ever happen, but he knew the fault there was his as well as hers. He wasn’t sure he could be friends again with someone who’d hurt him so much.

It turned out he was right.

Despite the machinations of fate, they had both found themselves single, tossed out of life’s grander schemes to fend for themselves. She’d laughed until she’d cried at the irony of it all, showing a side of herself that no one else ever got to see.

As a teenager he’d loved her because she was so assured, knowing, and mysterious.

As an adult he loved her because she was vulnerable, complicated, and human.

Before he loved the idea of her, and now he loved the reality.

Maybe it was too soon. Maybe fate wasn’t done with them and was just out back taking a smoke break. Maybe things wouldn’t be any different this time.

What he did know was that his feelings were as strong as they’d ever been. They’d lain dormant inside him, never fully extinguished, just waiting. He knew she felt it, too, whenever she looked at him with her honey brown eyes, or wrapped her arms around his neck and sighed into his shoulder, or kissed him like it was that first time, with wonder and excitement.

He couldn’t let her go again.

It was time to take a leap.

The sales clerk was smiling patiently as he considered the velvet-lined tray. “I can show you some others, if you like.”

“No,” he said, and pointed to the diamond ring he’d been looking at all week. “That’s the one.”

All I have to say is screw Clamp and their crack pairings. Haha! Your reality is always more appealing then theirs. My favorite part was,"She’d laughed until she’d cried at the irony of it all, showing a side of herself that no one else ever got to see." and "Before he loved the idea of her, and now he loved the reality." I would of liked to see how he proposed and her reaction but I love this fic all the same. Thank you for writing it. = D
